The Florentine Mosaic Workshop — Salesman, conducted by Francesca Gulizia with the assistance of Paolo Pratesi, is an immersive experience that introduces you to one of the most precious artistic techniques of the Renaissance: Commisso in Pietre Dure.
During the workshop, participants will receive shaped pieces of marbles of different colors and types, who will have to assemble ('commit') according to a precise pattern. Once the composition is completed, the tiles will be fixed on the back with specific glues, creating a solid and refined mosaic.
The workshop is divided into three parts:
- Practical part (45—60 min): assembling marble pieces to create a composition (a choice between a geometric pattern or a butterfly on a marble tile).
- Laboratory visit (30 min): explanation of traditional techniques, while the work begins to dry.
- Finishing (30 min): cleaning, protection and, if required, gluing the mosaic to the support.
